I have a chess set. Once my Grandfather's. He was a tailor. Before he died and I took possession, he replaced a missing pawn with a wooden thread spool. I love the set. Last game, we found a king had a cracked base. My reaction surprised me. No sadness, or anger. It's just a thing. So we glued it. It still plays, and has a new story.
